This is my brother's sculpture of Harbinger from Larry Correia's Monster Hunter International series. Earl Harbinger is, obviously, a werewolf from the series and he is a wonderful character.

My brother showed Larry the sculpture while he was still in the process of creating it. Larry loved the sculpture so much, he commissioned a copy of it for himself. He even signed the plaque on the African mahogany base. If anyone is interested in purchasing their own copy, my brother is selling 8 of these in a limited edition for $2750 each. Feel free to email him at devondorrity@gmail.com if you are interested. Bronze sculpture is a long expensive process.

Brian C. Hailes - Skeleton Play

An artist friend of mine, Brian C. Hailes, has recently created a children's book titled "Skeleton Play". I would highly recommend purchasing the book on Amazon for your kids around Halloween-time. It is a great book that approaches the subject of death from a different and mostly fun perspective. Similar to Brian, I lost a child at the tender age of five months and I can greatly appreciate the approach he is taking.
"Follow a zany assemblage of skeletons on a whimsical journey through the hereafter to find answers to the ultimate questions. Do skeletons dream? And what would they do if brought back to life?"
Skeleton Play is a Halloween-themed children's picture book designed to help children and parents better cope with death. In a fun and engaging way, it helps promote the idea that death doesn't have to be a dark or scary thing; it is a part of everyday life and the Other Side doesn't have to be feared or shrouded with gloom or negativity. It can be viewed as a happy, joyful, and colorful place where our loved ones who have passed on live in happiness and fulfillment.

A Winner of the Dracula Untold Contest

Just wanted to thank all the other artists and deviants out there that submitted the comments to my Dracula Untold submission. I ended up finishing up as one of the winners of the Dracula Untold Billboard Contest. There were three grand prize winners and our work was already submitted as a banner across DeviantArt on the 7th, 8th, and 9th of February.
The contest was extremely fast! We had to create our art in 7 days (the length of the contest) to be able to get the work submitted in time. For me, it came down to the last minute (quite literally 52 seconds left!) before I had my final piece of work submitted. It was a fun contest and I appreciate all of you that submitted comments and gave me advice on my work before and after the contest was over.
If you haven't seen the movie yet, I would highly recommend it to you. The movie was more than just a normal gore-fest associated with similar-type horror movies. I won't put up any spoilers, but I will say that I think you will enjoy the movie.

2014 Chesley Awards

I am very proud to tell you all the my brother not only received a nomination, but he won the 2014 Chesley Award for the Best Three-Dimensional Art with his "Queen of the Seas" sculpture. He had some extremely tough competition that were competing for the award. For those of you that have never heard of this award, the Chesleys have long been internationally acclaimed as the most prestigious awards in the field of fantastic arts. These awards are nominated and decided upon by the members of the ASFA community, the Association of Science Fiction and Fantasy Artists. These are the same people that give out the Hugo awards every year. The awards are usually presented at the World Science Fiction Convention. This year they were presented in London.

My brother had his sculpture bronzed before he shipped it off to New York for the exhibit. Here are some images of the sculpture:

I got into Spectrum 21!!!

Don't really want to toot my own horn too loudly, but I am pleased to announce that the book cover I worked on in collaboration with my brother Devon Dorrity, the photographer Jason Morrison, and the model Shelbilee Lee got into Spectrum Fantastic Art's annual release, Spectrum 21. I have been following Spectrum for years and have always wanted to have my art listed besides some of the best artists in sci-fi, fantasy, horror, and otherwise uncategorizable works.
This project was a lot of fun to work on with my brother, Devon, throughout the year. Devon has a very wonderful imagination and can envision projects down to precise details, enabling him to direct other artists in very particular ways to see his vision come to life. Because he is also an artist himself, he isn't afraid to jump into a project and get his own hands messy with the art. He setup and directed the photo shoot with the model, arranged the original composition and layout of the book before I started on the illustration, and he blended my finished illustration into the cover design. He came up with the idea and directed the design for this award-winning cover for the book "Awakening - Book One of the Geis".
The book is available for download for the Kindle and iOS devices. You can also pick up a physical copy of the book on Amazon.
I will post the finished version of the cover shortly.
I love Spectrum because the artwork that they assemble is right up the alley of the artwork I enjoy creating. My favorite artist of all-time, Frank Frazetta, has had many of his works on display in Spectrum. Spectrum's mission is "To promote the fantastic arts and provide an annual showcase for contemporary artists." To find out more about Spectrum, please visit this link:
